Okay. Let's go to that diner with great lunch specials then. See you in a bit?

Yeah, I'll see you there!

[And he'll be there, on time. As per usual.]

[Blaine looks nervous, but excited. He grins when he sees Tim, but waits until they are sitting down with food before he brings up what is on his mind.]


So... I'm going to ask Kurt to marry me.

[Way to start out with a preamble, there, Blaine. You're lucky he didn't choke on his sandwich. He swallows with a cough, reaching for his soda and taking a drink. Wow. Wow.]

Really?

[mediumdrip]

[Blaine grins a bit, though it's that nervous 'I'm not sure what I'm doing' grin.]

Um, yeah. I think so. He's been ready for me to do it for a while and after, well, everything. I just... I don't want to spend a moment longer than I have to. I want him to be my husband.

[Another drink of soda. On one hand, there was elation for his friend. And on the other, so much worry. He remembered Dick's almost marriage to Kory, the problems there...

He didn't always have fond memories of weddings.]

Okay. Let me just point out the obvious problems, okay, I need to be the devil's advocate here. You guys just came home from a really bad break up, right? And you're also not that old. By old, I mean you're not old enough to drink in the U.S. And you also don't have to be married to spend the rest of your life together, in the port.

I know, I've thought of that too. But, if you add the time we've been here and the time we were together back home, we've been dating for almost two years. We've been through so much and we could die or disappear any second here.

I don't want to waste any more time making him wait.

[theshortestbird]

I know, I know. People date longer for two years, sometimes, before marriage. And it's... it's marriage. You both are barely out of high school, and there's a big difference between high school romance and not in high school romance.

[It's not really dissuading him from it. It's pointing out the possible problems, and seeing if Blaine can overcome them from a logic standpoint, not an emotional one.]

Exactly. We're ready for a not high school romance. I'm ready.

Are you really? A high school romance doesn't mean marriage.

[mediumdrip]

Not all the time.

We do though. Him and me. We mean marriage. I want to be with him for the rest of my life.

[theshortestbird]

[The rest of your life here, but Tim knows the distinction doesn't need to be said. And really, it could be his own bleak outlook on life right now, instead of anything else.]

So, what do you need me for? [He smiles.]

[mediumdrip]

Well...

I want you to be my Best Man.

[theshortestbird]

Oh. [His voice cracks in a way it hasn't done for a long time, and he looks down at the table, tracing a crack with his eyes, and then with his finger.]

What, you mean you couldn't find anyone better? [When he looks up, the small blush is fading, and his grin is wide and sunny. It hasn't been lately, but now he looks a little more normal.]

No, I couldn't. [Whatever self-depreciation that Tim meant in that statement is turned around on him, as Blaine answers with complete sincerity. There is no one better, because Tim is his best friend. Of course he's the one Blaine asks to do this.]

You've been there for me, helping me through so much. I think I could use that through this too.

[theshortestbird]

You know, the last time I went to a wedding... [He bit his lip, trying to control the grin.]

Okay. You know you would have my help through this, anyway, but I'm really honored that you want me a part of the wedding. So, I guess the answer is yes. Definitely yes.

[mediumdrip]

[Blaine makes a relieved noise, though he didn't really think that Tim would turn him down.]

Great! Thanks.

We can start by going to pick up some stones. Kurt and I already have the promise rings. [A simple white gold band is on Blaine's finger and has been for a while, just on the wrong hand for a wedding band.] I was thinking instead of getting a new ring I could get some diamonds or gem stones and Kurt could customize the way they were set into the ring.

That's a really good idea, probably better then buying a big diamond ring. [And possibly a little cheaper, depending on the stones.]

I think he'll like that. The being able to customize it, probably the most. [He laughs.] Probably second to the actual proposal, though. Do you have an idea of what kind of stones you want? Like, color ones or just normal diamonds, or even special diamonds? Like yellow, or black, or...

[mediumdrip]

I have no idea! [Blaine admitted finally] I'm leaning towards diamonds though. He'll like that classic look, I think.

[theshortestbird]

I think he'll like the classic look, more. He's kind of a classic, romantic kind of guy, so that... should work. [He laughs.]

You're getting married!

[mediumdrip]

If he says yes, anyway. [Blaine says with a grin. He doesn't think that Kurt will turn him down, but it's still a possibility.]

[theshortestbird]

He's going to say yes. [He reaches over and knocks his shoulder.] That's not even a question.

[mediumdrip]

Considering he's been waiting for me to ask him for a while now?

I'm just worried, because of what happened back home... What if he changed his mind?

When you guys showed up here, again, didn't you tell me that you'd both decided to put it all behind you? That you weren't going to think about it?

[He shrugs.] He could, but I don't think he will.

[mediumdrip]

He said he wanted to, but that doesn't mean it's all forgotten...
