[A shrug meets Tim's statement as Sephiroth finishes paying so they can move away from the counter and find a seat. He gestures for Tim to lead, not sure of what sort of privacy the other man might want for his 'advice.'] Part of the fun in life is doing those little things that you don't have to.

That's some sound advice, but it does sound like it came from a fortune cookie. [Grins, grabbing his coffee and taking a seat near the window.]

We don't have fortune cookies where I'm from.

[They'd been a novel discovery, as had Chinese takeout. Sephiroth sits opposite his companion, a glance given through the thick glass before focusing on Tim again. He'll give his companion a chance to start before he enters with the leading questions.]

I keep forgetting that not everyone is from the same place. You'd never know it, you know? [Sighs, sipping his coffee.]

[soldierfirst]

One of the novelties of this place. [A sip of his own drink, slightly contemplative of the flavor. It's nice; the shop is going on his list of places to re-visit.] Do you miss much from home?

I miss a few things. My friends, and school. This really good diner that was down the street from my home. [Smiles.] Normal things.

[soldierfirst]

I understand the sentiment. I miss the familiarity of my routine a little bit, even though I've fallen into one here. [He chuckles.] I think I miss my office.

What did you do back home, in your world? If you don't mind me asking.

[soldierfirst]

You can ask. [Because really, Lee had mostly hired him on his rank, or so Sephiroth thought. It would probably come out sooner or later.]

I hold the rank of General. Back home, I worked for a company called ShinRa, as part of a program called SOLDIER.

[Huh. Hadn't expected that.]

So was it like the army? Like, a private army for a company?

[soldierfirst]

Not 'like' an army, it was an army. For a company large enough and powerful enough to be as a country itself. [There's no bragging in Sephiroth's voice, simply the honest truth.] There was the regular army, yes, but SOLDIER is...a little different.

What made it different?

Genetic re-engineering. I've been... altered. [That most telling of his creation, the slit-pupiled eyes, flicked up to meet Tim's for a moment before turning to his drink again, raising the cup for another sip.] Some people will always feel a need for weapons, and not all weapons are made of steel.

...It's not legal to test on people back home, for me. But... I guess that's not a problem in other places. Did it make you a better fighter?
